It’s a common misconception that you have to be hungry in order to lose weight. While it’s true that you may need to decrease your calorie intake, you don’t have to starve yourself to get quick weight loss. Being hungry can lead to fatigue. Skipping meals causes a loss of concentration and could make you crave sugary drinks and high-calorie foods.

Thankfully, you don’t have to starve yourself to lose weight fast and keep it off for good. You just have to switch to a healthier diet, adjust to it, and make it your new normal.

Eat Mostly Whole, Unprocessed Foods

Our diets are often heavy in processed foods that are full of sugar and salt. Many of us don’t even realize how much extra fat, sugar, and sodium we’re eating. Foods high in these ingredients are usually pre-packaged, which makes them convenient and easy to prepare. In our time-stressed lives, this creates an incentive to choose these foods above others. Switching to whole foods, which usually take longer to prepare, feels too difficult to manage.

But the benefits of choosing whole foods are astounding. Processed foods don’t provide the vitamins and nutrients we need to stay healthy. As a result, we end up eating more and more to compensate. When you eat mostly whole foods, you get more of the nutrients you need and end up eating less. This leads to quick weight loss and better energy levels.

To get more whole foods, you have to become a more selective shopper. Choose more fresh meats and produce over prepackaged alternatives. When you do buy packaged foods, read the nutritional labels and ingredient lists on the back.

Foods with short ingredient lists that don’t contain additives and chemicals are more healthful than others. Keep an eye out for added sugars. Ingredients like fructose, dextrose, corn syrup, and even agave syrup are often added to foods to make them sweeter and more desirable. But they also contribute to weight gain.

Additionally, pick foods that have more of the vitamins and nutrients you need. Stay away from nutritionally deficient foods.

Prepare Your Own Lunch and Dinner

Once you’re bringing more whole foods into your kitchen, your kitchen becomes your best meal source. It’s tempting to eat out when you’re at work or spending time with your friends and family. However, eating out too often means you have less control over the food you’re eating.

Try to prepare and bring your own lunch to work during the week. It’s an extra step you have to take the night before, but you can get quick weight loss by doing it. You’ll rely less on fast food and the fatty, sugary meals that are cooked in restaurants. You’ll also have more energy during the day and you’ll be able to rest easier at night.

If you want to have a meal with friends or family, offer to host them for a meal at your home instead of going out, if you can. You can even enlist their help to prepare the meal! While this certainly takes time, it’ll be better for your body in the long run. Your friends and family may even thank you for it.

Naturally, you don’t have to give up eating out altogether. But it’s best to save these ideas for special occasions.
