Your drink of choice. If you are a big fan of having cocktails at the end of a long day, you may want to rethink this hazardous habit. According to health experts,  it is best women limit their drinking to one beverage per day and men no more than two drinks per day if they want to maintain healthy blood pressure numbers. If you want to stay in the safe zone when it comes to drinking coffee and tea, it’s best to limit your intake to less than 300 milligrams per day which typically equates to two to three cups of coffee.

Over-the-counter medications. We usually think of Advil and Aleve as harmless pain relief pills used to cure our aches, however; these anti-inflammatory drugs contain ibuprofen and naproxen respectively, both of which can increase blood pressure. If you are not able to benefit from natural remedies such as Arnica, Boswellia or even CBD Hemp Oil, opt for acetaminophen, such as Tylenol for your pain relief needs, as it is less likely to raise your blood pressure. There are several decongestant medications that are also known to raise blood pressure, so always be sure to read the warnings and side effects on the label. Fen Gre from Standard Process, supports healthy levels of mucus and phlegm in the lungs and bronchial tubes.  Broncafect by Medi Herb, supports healthy respiratory tract function, maintain healthy mucosal tissue, support normal mucus flow, support the body’s natural ability to break up respiratory secretions, support the body’s normal cough reflex.  Ask us for holistic recommendations.

Licorice is and herbal supplement that will support adrenal fatigue however it is best taken early in the day because you will notice increased energy. Take caution if you have a tendency for high blood pressure because Licorice can cause hypertension.

Tyramine. You may want to take a peek at nutrition labels before you consume store-bought products. There are several meats and soy products that contain high levels of tyramine, which is a substance that causes hypertension when it reacts with certain antidepressants containing monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).

Whatever you do, make sure that you get a proper blood pressure reading, as it’s very common to get a high reading while you are in the presence of doctors, which has been deemed as “white coat hypertension.” It’s important to avoid having your blood pressure taken in a setting that has a tendency to bring on anxiety for you. Instead, you may want to invest in a blood pressure monitor at home, so you can take your reading when you are in a peaceful environment.
