You know yourself better than anyone, so designing your own home weight loss plan should be fairly easy. While designing the plan may seem easy, it will be up to you to have the resolve to see it through. To make it easier, make sure to include things you enjoy and that you will always look forward to. Include your children if they are of an age where they would enjoy the activity. Your only obstacle is yourself. With that being said focus on your strong points, build up your weak areas and get busy.
Know Your Goals
In order to know where to start and what goals to set, you need to understand your personal strengths and weaknesses. This includes any limitations you may have when it comes to your health. You may need to consult with a doctor before moving forward to make sure that your home weight loss plan will not compromise your health or aggravate any existing health conditions. The next step is to set your goals. Determine your final goal first. Next set up a series of smaller goals that will take less time to reach. These small milestones are times when you can reward yourself with a forbidden dessert or a night on the town. Make sure the goals are challenging, but still reachable. Weight loss isn't so hard if you keep things simple and to the point.
Understand What Your Body Needs Nutritionally
Each person is built differently when it comes to the amount of muscle mass and fat they carry. Because of this, nutritional needs will vary as well. A person who is heavily muscled will need more protein in their diet to help them maintain it and keep their strength and tone. Individuals who have long lean muscle, like runners, will need more carbohydrates. Until you get into your weight loss program, you may not know exactly what you need until you find out how your body reacts to certain foods and exercise plans. If you begin to lose weight and the numbers don't show it, you may be displacing fat for muscle. This means you are building more muscle and gaining strength, so more protein would be a good idea. If you begin to drop weight quickly in both inches and pounds, you may be a lean muscle type. This means more carbohydrates. Either way, the rule of thumb is to include fresh fruits and vegetables whenever possible and the leanest cuts of meat, chicken and fish.
Create Your Workout Schedule
To lose weight effectively and keep it off, you need to remain active. Create a workout schedule that fits and stick to it. You don't have to work out at the same time every day, you just have to make time wherever you can find it. In fact, it's best if you create a schedule that varies from week to week. Swap out certain exercises when you get bored and don't rely on the same workout time every day. Keep the body guessing about what's coming and you won't reach those nasty plateaus that everyone complains about.
Make a Plan B
It never fails. You get started on a diet and something happens to sabotage it. The holidays, a family gathering, a wedding, any kind of event where you know they will have all of your favorite foods front and center. This is where you need a Plan B. Plan B means changing your workout routine and diet schedule to accommodate for what you know you will find at the party. It gives you some extra room for a dessert or two that you may not otherwise be able to have. Plan B's are lifesavers and you don't have to feel guilty if you occasionally feel the need to slip and fall off of the diet wagon.
Schedule in Time to Rest
During a home weight loss plan, your body will be going through major changes, especially where your hormone levels are concerned. Give your body the time it needs to make those changes and heal from any minor damage that may be incurred during exercise. Try to get 8 to 10 hours of sleep a night. If that doesn't always happen, grab a short nap in the afternoon to give the body a chance to relax.
Anytime you decide to start a home weight loss plan, talk to your doctor first. They can offer you some insight on the safety of certain exercises and programs that you may be considering. Focus on the fun things you like to do and enjoy yourself along the way. If weight loss is the path to a better you, change your outlook now and make it as fun and exciting as possible.
