Exercise with Your Grand-kids Promotes Health + Connection

Surely, you’ve heard the saying, “a family that plays together, stays together,” and this certainly couldn’t be more true than in the golden years of your life. While your lifelong health is not always guaranteed, there are steps you can take to enhance your vitality and energy levels. And believe it or not, you will have fun and connect with your grandkids in the process.

Sometimes it seems that children have endless supplies of energy, which can be a bit intimidating, especially when you’ve got years on them. But, in most cases, a child’s energy levels will naturally spill over to you and before you know it you will be chasing them around the park in a game of tag. If you don’t stay healthy for yourself, at least make it a point to stay healthy so you can keep up with your grand-kids because they won’t stay young forever either.

Here are a few tips for keeping up with the kids and using their energy to your advantage. Maybe it’s time to start thinking of your grandkids as your personal trainers and health coaches.

1. Book a weekly date. If you don’t live on the same street as your grand-kids and don’t have the luxury of seeing them on a daily basis, book a date, and make sure that date involves an activity that will promote stimulation in your brain or your body. In most cases it will do both. Maybe you can schedule a game of mini golf or organize a trek to the beach? Carrying all their toys in a beach bag, while trudging through the sand will be a workout all on its own.

2. Don’t be intimidated. Today’s youngsters have no problem keeping up with technology, but just because you may struggle with working the television remote doesn’t mean that you have to avoid trying out new things. Allow them to drive an activity, and you may find that you pick up a new hobby. It will most likely be something technology-related but there is no rule that grandparents can’t be interested in video games or the latest apps.

3. Wear a step tracker. If you really want to see how beneficial time with the grand-kids is for you, then it might be time to start wearing a device that tracks how many steps you take in a day. We can guarantee that your steps will be doubled on the grand-kid days.
