COLD LASER AND – HOW IT IS DONE

Weight-management-service

Cold laser therapy is a form of photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy, which can be used for the treatment of both acute and chronic pains in the body. This is a relatively recent development in medicine.

For the fact!

The first cold laser therapy had been FDA-approved for treating pain in 2001

This invention is a non-invasive, painless and easily administered therapy for a wide variety of superficial clinical conditions. Cold laser therapy has been widely used to relieve pain caused by different musculoskeletal disorders. Though widely used for patients with nonspecific chronic low back pain.

Multiple variables affect the clinical therapeutic effects of infrared laser treatments, including energy density, wavelength, laser delivery system, the number of treatment sessions and their duration.

What does cold laser primarily depend upon?

The therapeutic laser dose depends primarily on three factors: power output, wavelength and time. The factors listed, also have been reported to have the greatest influence in enhancing tissue healing and improving clinical outcomes.

Laser’s wavelength is obviously an important parameter because it determines the ability of a laser beam to penetrate tissue. Cold laser therapy is administered using a simple point and shoot technique at the involved tissue area(s) and/or nerves. We make it a point if there are any painful points, we make sure to inform the patients of this.

We, here at Dr. Restivo, have trained professionals in laser safety procedures and have background training in anatomy, kinesiology and/or physical therapy to begin, identifying the painful area is very important. Then, after identifying the painful area, the laser beam is pointed directly at the overlying skin area at varying distances depending on the power and wavelength of the laser device. Depending on the size of the painful area and/or number of symptomatic body areas, a HILT treatment session can last upto 18 minutes.

For the record!

Although some acute injuries resolve after only 1 to 2 treatment sessions, most chronic pain conditions require a series of 8 to 12 treatment sessions over 3 to 4 weeks,
